What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula helps new parents make the home a peaceful place in the first days of family bonding. Childbirth can be an emotional and exhausting time. The role of a Postpartum Doula is to “Mother the New Mother.” As a non-judgmental caregiver, she assists the new mother with her recovery from the birth experience, allowing her to focus on the needs of the new baby.
Research evidence shows that the services of a postpartum doula can ease the transition that comes with the addition of a new baby, improve parental satisfaction, and reduce the risk of mood disorders.
My Philosophy:
I believe what new families need most is nurturing and gentle support. I do this by focusing on the mother’s needs and helping both parents to develop confidence in their parenting skills while demonstrating techniques in newborn care and feeding. I do not insist that you adhere to a specific parenting style. I trust parents to make decisions for their babies, and will help you get the information you need to make wise choices. Families with a new baby are particularly vulnerable, and it is always my goal to be helpful in a quiet, pleasant, appropriate and unobtrusive way. I am respectful of the traditions, culture and values of my clients.
I think there are many good ways to care for babies, and I do not enforce my own .
